Geodetic surveying is the survey in which the curvature of the earth is taken into account and higher degree of accuracy in linear and angular observations is achieved.

Geodetic Surveying definition includes using geotechnical instruments at pre-construction, during construction, and post-construction stages to monitor the fundamental parameters affecting the construction.Due to its relatively low-cost, it is widely spread and used in all civil engineering projects. A geodetic survey determines the precise position of permanent points on the earth's surface, taking into account the shape, size and curvature of the earth. Geodetic surveying techniques are applied when areas or distances involved are so great that desired accuracy and precision results cannot be obtained by ordinary or plane surveying. In 1807, President Thomas Jefferson signed a bill for the "Survey of the Coast," thus establishing the U.S. Coast Survey, the beginning of the oldest scientific agency in the U.S. Government.

The phenomena of performing Geodesy using GPS (Global Positioning System) through satellite for navigation purpose and to measure the position of points in terrestrial base stations (Simply measures earth’s Geodynamical phenomena during surveying for some projects) is known as Geodetic survey.
